The International Cricket Council has fined India's Amit Mishra 10 percent of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire's decision during the first test against West Indies in Jamaica.

ICC match referee Jeff Crowe said in a statement Wednesday that "on being given out, Amit stood his ground for a lengthy period of time and while doing so gestured to his arm guard until finally he left the crease."

"Batsmen are taking too long to leave the crease after being given out," Crowe said. "Whether it is just disappointment, it's still disrespectful and, as the code clearly states, unacceptable."

Mishra could have legitimately challenged the umpire's decision had the Decision Review System been available, but Indian authorities have consistently vetoed the use of the television replay system.

Because of India's opposition, the DRS will not be used in the upcoming series against England and provides a major hurdle to ICC plans to mandate consistent umpiring protocols in all international matches, putting the future of DRS in doubt.

Mishra was out for 6 in India's first-innings of 246 on Monday.
