Kenya elects to bat against NZL

Kenya captain Jimmy Kamande won the toss and decided to put his side into bat against New Zealand in both teams' opening Group A fixture at the World Cup on Sunday.

Kamande said after that toss that the heat was not going to be a problem.

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori said he expects the track to deteriorate over the day. The Kiwis have chosen to omit Kyle Mills for this match, while Hamish Bennett and Tim Southee are the two frontline seamers.

New Zealand has had a tough time in one-day internationals recently, winning only two of its previous 14 series games.

Kenya goes into the game after warning rivals it was aiming to cause a few upsets at the tournament, having memorably reached the semifinals in 2003.

Kenya: Alex Obanda, Seren Waters, Collins Obuya, Steve Tikolo, Morris Ouma, Rakep Patel, Jimmy Kamande, Thomas Odoyo, Nehemiah Odhiambo, Shem Ngoche, Elijah Otieno

New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (captain), Hamish Bennett, James Franklin, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Scott Styris, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor.
