Qatar's emir is ready to travel to the Palestinian territories to try to break the political deadlock and violence between Palestinian factions, a senior Palestinian official said on Thursday.
Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has told Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas that he is ready to meet with him and the leaders of Hamas, which controls the government, to relaunch mediation aimed at the formation of a unity government, said the official.
Qatar's foreign minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr al-Thani, held talks with Abbas and Hamas leaders earlier this month to try to broker a compromise and halt the clashes between Palestinian gunmen.
