A US soldier has been shot dead in Baghdad, the military said on Sunday.
The American "died at approximately 1:00 p.m Saturday when terrorists attacked his patrol with small-arms fire in western Baghdad," a statement said.
The deaths bring to 2,826 the number of US troops to have died in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion, according to an AFP tally based on Pentagon figures.
