An interesting event took place at the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) on Saturday (September 5) when Javed Akhtar, a senior government official of Grade-22, reportedly reached the CCP office in Diplomatic Enclave for collecting information on sugar sector.
A number of CCP officials told Business Recorder on Sunday that the said official remained in the CCP office for about 4 hours and demanded information about sugar sector. The CCP office usually remains closed on Saturday and only security staff remains within the commission. However, he opened the office and contacted concerned officials working on sugar crises having relevant information on this sector.
When contacted, Javed Akhtar categorically denied that he had visited the CCP office on Saturday. "My posting has been made as new CCP chairman. However, when I heard the news of the Prime Minister about Khalid Mirza's extension, I am still not clear about my new position. Saturday is a holiday at the CCP and there is no logic to go to the CCP in this situation. This is absolutely wrong that I visited the CCP office and demanded any kind of information on sugar sector. ", he added.
It is important to mention that many officials of the CCP have confirmed that the event took place and he came to the office for taking charge and collect information on sugar crises.
The government has recently promoted Javed Akhtar in Grade-22 and appointed him as new CCP chairman. However, PM later allowed Khalid Mirza to continue to work as chairman of the CCP.
