AQ Khans detention case: Contempt petition filed against 11 personsA contempt of court petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday against 11 personalities for flouting the court’s verdict delivered in a case pertaining to nuclear scientists Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s illegal confinement.
Barrister Iqbal Jaffery filed the contempt petition making President Pervez Musharraf, Information Minister, Sherry Rahman, Interior Secretary, Kamal Shah, Attorney General Malik Qayyum and others as respondents.
The petitioner said that the Dr Qadeer Khan’s detention has not ended up and the High Court’s decision of setting him free is not being implemented.
Dr Khan’s counsel Barrister M. Javed Iqbal Jafree had also filed a review in the court against its judgment in the case but the court had returned the petition with objections.
The counsel in the review had requested the court to declare that Dr Qadeer is a free person and it is the duty of the government to provide him security.
The IHC in its judgment barred Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan from speaking on the nuclear proliferation issue, but had allowed him to meet relatives and travel inside the country after security clearance.
Dr Qadeer Khan was put under house arrest in 2004 after he was forced to appear on the state-run television to say that he had transferred nuclear technology to other countries.
Khan said recently that he did not transfer nuclear secrets outside Pakistan and that he had made statement on state TV for the sake of the country. Khan says that Europeans had been involved in transfer of nuclear technology.
