The United Nations (UN) challenged Sunday countries all over the world to step up efforts in implementing the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and uphold the rule of law on the seas and oceans in celebration of the first World Oceans’ Day (WOD) Monday.
Responding to the theme of 2009 World Ocean Day "Our Oceans Our Responsibility", the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Science and Technology has taken the lead in Pakistan to celebrate this important international event.
NIO is going to organise a one-day seminar on Monday, in response to the call of United Nations. To be inaugurated by Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, it will have IUCN Vice President Javed Jabbar, Secretary Environment and Alternative Energy, Sindh, Mir Hussain Ali, Secretary Environment, Government of Balochistan Munir Ahmad Badini, Moin Raza Khan, General Manager (Exploration) PPL, besides Director General NIO Dr Shaukat Hayat Khan among the speakers.
