Security tightened around Adiala jail amid PTI protest call

Authorities in Rawalpindi have tightened security outside Adiala Jail after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced a protest during the scheduled meeting day with party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.

Police closed shops, petrol pumps and educational institutions in Dahgal and Gorakhpur, while the main Adiala Road leading to the prison was sealed.

Additional security personnel have been deployed, and a water cannon is positioned for action in case of violations of Section 144.

SSP Operations Tariq Malik said no one would be allowed to break the law.

Imran Khan is allowed visits from lawyers, family members and others on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Last week, after a one-month gap, his sister Uzma Khan met him and later said his health was fine, but he was angry and claimed he was being subjected to mental pressure.

Prime Minister’s adviser Rana Sanaullah said the meeting was held on the condition that no press conference would follow.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar added that jail meetings are conducted strictly under prison rules, and those violating them have had their visits suspended.

Officials said any unlawful activity during the protest would not be tolerated.
