Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi on Tuesday refuted speculation about his resignation, saying he had been unable to perform his duties due to ill health.
Zaidi later denied the news saying that he has not resigned from the post of FBR Chairman, Shabbar Zaidi had earlier gone on indefinite leave after he suffered health issues and was reportedly receiving medical treatment and said that he cannot continue further work due to health problems, and has informed the top officials of the decision as well.
Earlier, Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh dismissed reports regarding the removal of Shabbar Zaidi, terming it ‘completely false'. “We want Shabbar Zaidi to get well soon and return to the office," he said.
However, if Zaidi's condition does not improve, alternative options can be considered, Sheikh added.
Zaidi was on leave from January 6 to January 19, 2020 and is on medical leave from Monday (February 3).
