The varsity`s teachers have led the protest drive, and among other demands they have called for the removal of the vice chancellor and the formation of a judicial commission to look into the slain teacher`s murder.
Several murders have occurred on campus in the recent past but Prof Channar`s killing was perhaps the first time a teacher was targeted. Along with the Sindh University Teachers Association, civil society has also criticised the varsity`s administration.
Besides Jamshoro university other universities in Sindh including Mehran Engineering university, Liaqat Medical university, Agriculture university of Tandojaam, Shah Latif university of Khairpur, University of Karachi and NED university in Karachi also stopped the classes and administrative activities during thee days.
On Wednesday Feb 15, The Governor House Karachi has constituted a 5-member committee to hold dialogue with Sindh University teachers Jamshoro conditionally to resume the classes.
A meeting of the Vice Chancellors Committee was held at the Governor House Karachi on Monday evening which was attended by the Vice Chancellors of the Public Sector Universities of the Province.
The Governor House has appointed committee under Convenership of Dr Rashid Ahmed Shah Vice Chancellor Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University at Lyari Karachi will be convenor of the committee while Dr A.Q.Mughal Vice Chancellor Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, Dr Nelofer Shaikh Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, Dr Muhammad Tahir Rajpur Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences and Dr Abida Tahrani Dean Faculty of Social Sciences will be the members of the committee.
