Federal Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has provided details on the salaries, allowances, and perks of federal ministers during a recent Senate session.

He revealed that Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) receive a monthly salary of Rs156,000.

However, no vehicles are allocated to parliamentarians, and they are given only Rs8,000 per month for utility bills.

Minister Tarar noted that federal ministers earn approximately Rs200,000, with 95% choosing not to take their full salary.

While ministers are entitled to a 1500cc car and 400 liters of petrol, they must cover their own electricity and gas expenses, as they receive no additional official benefits.

Regarding potential salary increases, Tarar indicated that economic constraints are often cited by Parliament when discussing pay raises for public officials.

Additionally, the interior ministry reported on the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra)’s adherence to austerity measures, stating that no vehicles have been purchased in the last two years.

However, in 2022, Nadra acquired 35 vehicles for operational purposes at a cost of Rs264.3 million, which included staff transportation options like coaches and a bus. Concerns were raised by Senator Dinesh Kumar regarding the use of luxury vehicles for these services.
