Jalaluddin Haqqani’s brother killed in Kabul blast

Officials fear the death toll could rise to as high as ten

A suicide bombing at the Ministry of Refugees headquarters in Kabul has killed Khalil ur Rehman Haqqani, Afghanistan’s Minister for Refugees, according to two senior Taliban officials.

The explosion, which occurred on Wednesday, also claimed the lives of at least two of the minister’s colleagues.

While the exact number of casualties remains unclear, officials fear the death toll could rise to as high as ten. The Taliban government is currently investigating the attack and the perpetrators’ motives.

Haqqani was the brother of the late Jalaluddin Haqqani, founder of the Haqqani network, and the uncle of Sirajuddin Haqqani, Afghanistan’s current Interior Minister.

The bombing represents a significant blow to the Taliban administration. Further details regarding the attack and ongoing investigations are awaited.
