Quetta closes roads to receive Caretake PM Kakar as people wait for hours - Aaj News

The citizens of Quetta city of Balochistan were stranded for hours after several routes were closed as Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar visited the city on Friday.

The arteries leading to the road from the Quetta Airport to the chief minister secretariat, Zargoon Road, Jinnah Road, Brewery Road and Joint Road were closed for hours for the VIP movement.

As soon as the PM’s squad passed the area, the security forces opened the traffic, which resulted in traffic flow from multiple roads. As a result, the commuters were again stranded in severe traffic jam for several hours.

The commuters lashed out at the closure of the roads for hours, saying that it is usual to close the road during the VIP movement; however, the closure on Friday was significantly longer.

Kakar was sworn in on August 14 as the 8th caretaker prime minister of Pakistan to see the country through to an election due in months.

Shortly before taking the oath, Kakar resigned from his Senate membership, though he was not required to do that under the law.

Two days earlier, President Arif Alvi signed a summary for his appointment as the caretaker PM after the former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and the leader of the opposition agreed on his name on the final day of the three-day consultation period.
