Obama apologises to Karzai over Quran burning
US President Barack Obama sent Afghan President Hamid Karzai a letter of apology over the burning of copies of the Quran at a US military base, Karzai’s office said Thursday.
Obama said the incident was not intentional and pledged a full investigation, a statement from the president’s office said.
Since Monday feb 20, the protests continued over the ‘improperly disposed’ of Islamic religious materials, including copies of the Quran, at the Bagram air base.
While eight Afghans were shot dead and dozens wounded in clashes between police and demonstrators protesting over the burning of the Quran. The protests became lethal after the US based NATO commander General John Allen apologized for the mishandling of Religious scriptures by the NATO soldiers on 21st of February.
