‘Puss In Boots’ Delivers Laughs & Adventure
Puss In Boots is a movie the whole family can enjoy. Like the Shrek movies, Puss In Boots is not just for kids – the humor will strike adults as funny too. The story follows Puss (Antonio Banderas) on a pre-Shrek adventure up the beanstalk from Jack and the Beanstalk. On his way Puss meets up with Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek).
This fast-paced adventure is set in fairytale land. However the fairytales in this world may not be quite the same as the ones you remember from your childhood. Jack and Jill may not be as innocent as we thought, the real monsters might not be the ones who look the part, and the real heroes might be a little shorter and furrier than expected. However, like in most fairytales, the animals are every bit as intelligent if not more so than humans.
Much like the Shrek movies, the humor isn’t targeted just at children. From the musical parodying in the score to the physical slapstick quality in many of the scenes, people of every age will find something to laugh about. Kids will love it.
While Puss In Boots is a comedic animated movie, it does have some educational and animal welfare value. In one scene, we learn why Kitty Softpaws has such soft paws – she had been declawed. While the movie does not outright say that you shouldn’t declaw your pets, it does imply that depriving an animal of his or her claws causes pain and, in the movie at least, shame.
Made up of one part suave action hero and one part crazy cat, Puss is a character any cat person will love.
