Toxic liquor takes 16 lives in 3 days

Three more people fell prey to toxic liquor, taking the death toll to 16 during last 3 days in Karachi.

According to police and rescuers, three more bodies were brought to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Thursday.

They said three more victims named Babu, Razzak lasi and Aslam died today.

Earlier, four victims including Malik Nazir, 25, son of Allah Dat, Abdul Qadir, 35, son of Latif, Muhammad Saeed, 35, son of Elahi Bux and Muhammad Uma, 35 were residents of Chanisar Goth while Samson, son of Sunil and Peter, son of Sunil, were resident of KMC Compound lost their lives.

They said that thirteen more people, who consumed toxic liquor, were brought to JPMC in critical condition. The injured were Shan, 25, Aslam, 32, Joseph Masi, 49, Ghulam Akbar, 45, Waheed Bux, 32, Babu, 45, Jahangir, 25, Shahid, 44, Aslam, 40, Rashid, 32 and Maqsood, 30.

SP Javed Odho said the excessive quantity of methyl in the liquor caused death of these persons. He said that teams were constituted to take the responsible persons to task. Odho further said that although the police department had received various complaints that illegal wine store was being run in the area, no action was taken, which led to the said incident.

It is to be mentioned here that six persons were killed while another lost his eyesight in Baakri Mohalla near Hindu Para, Chanisar Goth, in the jurisdiction of Tipu Sultan police on late Tuesday after consuming poisonous liquor.

SHO Tipu Sultan police station said the police had initiated investigation to arrest the supplier of the toxic liquor and raids were being conducted.

He confirmed the death of six more persons, adding that a case, 213/11, was registered on complaint of Sub Inspector Amin against Bashir alias Nana, Muhammad Baloch, Irfan alias Jabal, Badshah and others.
