Tsonga, Ferrero Land In Beijing quarters

Top seeded player in China Open, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is all set to take on the former No.1, Juan Carlos Ferrero on Friday.

France World No.7, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be clashing in his quarterfinals encounter against the Spaniard world No.84, Juan Carlos Ferrero on Friday, October 07, 2011 at 11:35 GMT in the ATP world Tour 500 series event held in Beijing, China.

The head to head encounter between both the players have clashed in three matches in past, as the world No.7, Tsonga is leading the contest with 2-1 against Ferrero. However, the previous encounter between them was in the 2010 Monte Carol Masters, as Ferrero has knocked out Tsonga in thrilling three set encounter with a score line of 6-1 3-6 7-5.

Tsonga must be aiming to muster all the required points to qualify for the season ending ATP World Tour Finals, which will be held in O2, London. After missing the greater part of the last season due to recurring injuries, Tsonga started off really well this year, as he advanced into the semis at Doha, earlier this season and then made a third-round exit at Rotterdam. Tsonga could not move beyond the third-round at Roland Garros, but did well at Wimbledon, as he beat Ferrer and Federer to reach the semis, but could not get past Novak Djokovic.

Two weeks ago, Tsonga won his sixth ATP World Tour title at the Moselle Open in Metz having got a win-loss record of 43-18 in 2011. Tsonga has beaten Ze Zhang with 6-3, 6-4to face the former No.1, Ferrero in quarterfinals of the China Open.

Ferrero winning a title this season at Stuttgart has got 14-7 win-loss record this season. He has been in good form has knocked out fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in one hour and 39 minutes.

As per the predictions, it would be three set thriller with Tsonga moving into the final four of the 2011 China Open.
