The 41-year-old forward made the comments in an interview with Vogue following his marriage to longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez in Portugal last week.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said he had already mapped out his life after football, with plans to spend more time with his family, travel and pursue interests away from the sport.

Ronaldo acknowledged that walking away from football could leave a “big hole” in his life after 25 years of dedication and sacrifice.

He said he wanted to enjoy life more by travelling, playing padel and making the most of what he and his family had achieved.

Ronaldo ended a lengthy wait for a major trophy last season by leading Al Nassr to the Saudi Pro League title.

He is now pursuing another landmark achievement, having scored 976 career goals and targeting the 1,000-goal mark.

The Portugal captain also hopes to fulfil a personal ambition of playing a competitive senior match alongside his 16-year-old son, Cristiano Junior, who is part of Al Nassr’s youth setup.

Ronaldo began his professional career with Sporting in 2002 before establishing himself as one of football’s greatest players during distinguished spells with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.

He later returned to Manchester United before joining Al Nassr and becoming one of the leading figures in Saudi football.

His comments came days after Lionel Messi also cast doubt on how much longer he would continue playing, following the death of his father, Jorge Messi.
