Houthis launch fresh missile, drone attacks on Yemen’s Mocha, Marib

The Houthi group launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on the southwestern Yemeni cities of Mocha and Marib, amid renewed fighting and escalating tensions across the war-torn country, pro-government forces and local authorities said on Sunday.

The National Resistance Forces, which are aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognised government and led by Presidential Leadership Council member Tariq Saleh, said a Houthi missile struck Mocha.

The group did not provide details about casualties or damage.

In Marib, the provincial government’s media office said six ballistic missiles and four drones targeted residential areas in the city on Saturday evening, injuring four people and damaging homes and other civilian property.

One of the strikes hit a bakery in the Al Sharika neighbourhood north of Marib city, injuring one person, according to the statement.

Several other densely populated neighbourhoods were also targeted, with vehicles and homes damaged in the attacks, the media office said.

It urged the international community to condemn attacks on displacement camps, residential areas and civilian facilities, and to document them as alleged violations of international humanitarian law.

The Houthis have not commented on the reported attacks.

Mocha and Marib have faced repeated Houthi strikes in recent days as fighting intensifies in several parts of Yemen.

The country had experienced a relative lull in hostilities since April 2022 after nearly a decade of war between government forces and the Houthis, who have controlled the capital, Sanaa, and several other areas since 2014.

However, fighting has resumed in recent weeks in several provinces, including Marib, Al Jawf, Al Dhalea and Taiz.
