The Persian Gulf Strait Authority, the body Iran set up to manage the waterway, rejected claims by US officials, saying the Strait of Hormuz remains closed until Tehran’s demands are met.

“The claims and repeated posts by US officials that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer blocked do not change the reality,” the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) said in a post on X on Wednesday.

“The Strait of Hormuz remains blocked and will not be reopened until Iran’s conditions are accepted,” it added.

Iran had declared the vital global energy chokepoint closed in response to US-Israeli aggression against the country between February 28 and April 7.

Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding in June aimed at ending the cycle of hostilities triggered by the aggression.

Iran subsequently reopened the strait but later reinstated the closure, accusing Washington of interfering with a legal transit mechanism Tehran had established for vessels passing through the waterway under the agreement.

Earlier this month, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said the Strait of Hormuz would only be reopened after Iran’s conditions were met.

These included a permanent end to US aggression against Iran and its regional allies, the lifting of US naval blockade and sanctions, the return of Iran’s frozen assets, and compensation for damage caused by the aggression.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, with disruptions to shipping through the waterway posing risks to global oil and gas supplies.
