Iran says US must accept ‘irreversible’ new rules for Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia has said the United States will have to accept Tehran’s new arrangements for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, describing the mechanism as irreversible.

Speaking at a gathering in Tehran on Saturday, Akraminia said Iran’s armed forces would remain committed to enforcing the new rules governing the strategic waterway until the arrangements were fully established.

He warned that any US military “adventurism” in the region would carry greater costs than in the past if Washington failed to recognise what he described as the new realities in the Strait of Hormuz.

Akraminia said Iran’s armed forces had the motivation and determination to uphold the new arrangements, adding that military personnel had continued operations despite what he called the enemy’s multi-layered defence systems.

He also praised Iranian forces for their willingness to sacrifice their lives in defence of the country and its political system.

The army spokesperson further commended public gatherings across Iran, saying the turnout had boosted the morale of the armed forces and strengthened their resolve to defend the country.
