MQM-P chief calls Bahadurabad clash a 'misunderstanding' after workers scuffle

MQM-Pakistan Chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has described a clash between workers of two party groups at the party’s Bahadurabad headquarters in Karachi as a “misunderstanding,” saying the situation has now been brought under control.

According to party sources, the incident occurred on Sunday night while a meeting led by Siddiqui’s group was underway at the Bahadurabad headquarters.

Former deputy convener Anees Qaimkhani later arrived at the venue with his supporters, leading to a heated exchange between members of the two groups.

After Siddiqui left the premises, workers from both sides confronted each other, resulting in a physical altercation that escalated tensions.

During the incident, a cameraman from a private television channel was allegedly detained inside the party office, assaulted and had his camera confiscated after filming footage of the reported firing.

According to the allegations, the cameraman was later released after being warned against making the video public.

Party sources also claimed that Sindh Assembly member Hafiz Ejazul Haq and National Assembly member Sabeen Ghori were subjected to abusive behaviour during the confrontation. They further alleged that gunfire erupted during the incident, causing panic in the area late into the night.

Following the clash, Siddiqui announced an emergency late-night press conference but cancelled it around 10 to 15 minutes later without addressing the media.

Speaking a day later, the MQM-P chairman said the incident resulted from a misunderstanding and an argument between party workers.

“The party leadership has reviewed the matter, and the situation is now better,” Siddiqui said.
