PML-N secures simple majority in AJK elections after second phase

The PML-N has secured a simple majority and strengthened its position to form the next government without the need for a coalition after the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections.

According to the latest unofficial, unverified results, the PML-N has won 23 seats in the first two phases, as against the PPP, which has secured seven seats so far.

After securing a comfortable lead in the first phase, the PML-N achieved more success in the second round of polling, further strengthening its position to form the next government.

According to unofficial and provisional results, the party won four of the seven declared constituencies in the Muzaffarabad Division, while the PPP secured three seats.

In the 12 refugee constituencies, the PML-N recorded a commanding performance by winning 10 seats, with the remaining two going to the PPP.

The party had also dominated the first phase of polling in the Mirpur Division, where it won nine of the 13 constituencies, while the PPP secured the remaining four seats.

With 23 seats now in its tally, the PML-N has moved into a position to form the AJK government on its own, without relying on any alliance.

A total of 27 seats are required to form the government in the AJK Legislative Assembly.

The third and final phase of the AJK election will be held on August 10, when polling is scheduled to take place for 11 constituencies in the Poonch Division.
