Speaking at a press briefing on the country’s security situation, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said security forces had carried out 40,348 intelligence-based operations, including 31,000 in Balochistan and 7,177 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said 3,145 terrorism-related incidents had been reported so far in 2026, adding that security forces conducted an average of 194 intelligence-based operations each day and killed an average of 10 militants daily.

According to the military, 819 people were killed in terrorist incidents this year, including 303 Pakistan Army personnel, 194 law enforcement officials and 322 civilians.

ISPR said 28 suicide attacks had taken place in 2026 and that evidence showed Afghans were involved in most of the suicide bombings and blasts. He added that Afghans had also been found to be involved in recent militant attacks in Tank and Karachi.

He rejected claims that the security situation in Balochistan was out of control, saying the ground reality was different and security forces were taking effective action against militants.

He said that for the first time in 2023, the number of security personnel killed in the fight against militancy exceeded the number of militants killed, but said the military had since adjusted its strategy, leading to significant operational successes.

He ruled out negotiations with militants, saying they had only two options: surrender in accordance with the law or face military action.

He said the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies would continue operations until terrorism was completely eradicated and lasting peace was established in the country.

He said Pakistan was not currently a “hard state”, explaining that the term meant a country where the constitution and law applied equally to everyone without exception, rather than military rule.

He said there was no room for elitism in such a state and urged citizens to balance demands for rights with their responsibilities under the constitution.

Referring to Balochistan, he said the government would engage with the province’s people rather than influential tribal figures whom he accused of seeking privileges, including control over the Levies Force, smuggling permits and shares in government jobs, development funds and resources.

He also alleged that India and Afghanistan shared a common role in sponsoring terrorism, alongside issues including deprivation, underrepresentation and missing persons.
