According to a PDMA spokesperson, widespread rainfall is forecast for Lahore and several other cities across Punjab, with heavy downpours expected to continue over the coming days.

The authority said that Noorpur Thal recorded the highest rainfall during the past 24 hours with 115mm, followed by Gujranwala (107mm), Gujrat (94mm), Narowal (68mm) and Mandi Bahauddin (65mm).

In Lahore, cumulative rainfall over the past five days has reached 450mm, the PDMA said.

The authority warned that continued heavy rain could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas and cause streams and seasonal nullahs to overflow.

It also cautioned about the risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Murree.

The PDMA said its provincial control room and all district emergency operation centres have been placed on high alert to respond to any emergencies.

PDMA Director General Umar Abbas directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and municipal authorities to ensure that rainwater does not accumulate in low-lying areas.

He also instructed officials to personally supervise field operations throughout the rain season.
