US carries out seven-hour military strikes on Iran

The United States carried out another wave of military strikes against Iran late Tuesday, targeting dozens of military sites near the Strait of Hormuz and along the country’s coastline, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

In a statement, CENTCOM said US fighter aircraft, drones and naval vessels conducted a seven-hour operation using precision-guided munitions against Iranian missile and drone positions, naval assets and coastal defence systems.

US fighter aircraft, drones and naval vessels launched precision munitions against “dozens” of military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas, CENTCOM’s statement on X said.

It did not name specific targets or damage.

The operation was aimed at further reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian vessels operating in and around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the command said.

CENTCOM added that the strikes coincided with the resumption of a US naval blockade on vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas.

“US forces remain vigilant, lethal and prepared to execute operations directed by the Commander in Chief,” the statement said.

The latest strikes came hours after US President Donald Trump warned that military operations against Iran would continue and intensify unless Tehran returned to the negotiating table.

Trump also threatened to expand the campaign to include Iran’s power plants and bridges next week if no diplomatic progress was made.

The conflict has intensified in recent days, with Washington and Tehran exchanging military attacks despite a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding intended to end hostilities and pave the way for a lasting peace agreement.

Meanwhile, Iran submitted a letter to the United Nations accusing the United States of breaching the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and alleging that Washington had committed war crimes through its military actions.
