In a post on X on Wednesday, Araghchi said insulting the Iranian nation would not undermine its dignity or resolve.

“Addressing the civilised and courageous nation of Iran with derogatory language does not diminish its greatness,” he wrote.

“Iranians are known for their civility, culture and strong moral values. We do not answer vulgarity with vulgarity, but with action — fearlessly and with great valour.”

His comments came after Trump, speaking on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Ankara, described Iranians as “scum” and “sick people” and declared the interim ceasefire agreement with Tehran to be effectively over.

Separately, Iran’s chief negotiator and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement, citing the latest US strikes, renewed oil sanctions, alleged interference in Iran’s management of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and continued Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

“The era of bullying and extortion is over. We don’t fold,” Ghalibaf wrote on X.
