The discovery of the bodies near the Malir River caused panic among local residents, officials said.

According to rescue authorities, the deceased were identified as 30-year-old Saba, wife of Hanif, and her eight-year-old daughter Nabiha.

Rescue teams reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and shifted the bodies to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem examination and legal formalities.

Police said they had taken the bodies into custody and launched an investigation into the incident.

Officials added that evidence was being collected from the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Authorities said it was too early to conclude whether the case involved suicide or foul play, adding that the exact cause and circumstances of the deaths would be established after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation.

Police said further details would be shared once the investigation progressed.
