An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Saturday sentenced PTI leaders — Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, Ejaz Chaudhry and Umar Sarfraz Cheema — to 10 years’ imprisonment each in a May 9 case.

The court announced its verdict on a case related to the burning of police vehicles in the Mughalpura area.

The court, however, acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the same case.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul announced the reserved verdict at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

The court said proceedings were completed after examining testimony from 37 prosecution witnesses, while a total of 22 accused were named in the challan.

During the trial, two suspects — Arbaz Zaman and Ilahi Bakhsh — were declared absconders.

The court delivered its final ruling on 15 of the accused, as a total of 22 accused were nominated in the case.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi was acquitted of all charges.

The case relates to the torching of police vehicles during protests in Lahore’s Mughalpura area on May 9 incidents that triggered a wider crackdown and multiple terrorism-related cases across the country.
