Trump says US has 'no obligation' to invest in Iran

President Donald Trump has said that the US has “no obligation” to invest in Iran, stressing that Washington is not committing any financial support even after its deal to end the Middle East conflict.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit following talks with the Emir of Qatar, Trump said, “We are not investing any money in Iran,” adding that the agreement is strictly centred on preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

He emphasised that the “only thing that really matters” is that Iran will never acquire nuclear arms, saying the deal makes this position “loud and clear.”

Trump also warned that “all hell will rain down” on Iran if its leadership attempts to pursue nuclear weapons.

According to Trump, the agreement is now moving into a “second stage,” which he suggested could be “actually easier” than the initial phase.

He reiterated that the US commitment under the deal does not include economic investment in Iran, reinforcing a pressure-based approach tied to nuclear non-proliferation.
