A meeting of the Punjab cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday approved the provincial budget for the financial year 2026-27.

The cabinet approved a 7% increase in salaries and pensions in line with the federal government announcement, while also deciding that no new taxes will be imposed in the upcoming budget.

According to officials, the budget reflects a “people-friendly” approach with a focus on relief measures for government employees and the general public.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the government remained committed to public service and would continue to follow relief-oriented policies.

She added that flagship initiatives such as “Suthra Punjab” and “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” had achieved record success.

She said the government had presented a people-friendly budget last year as well and would continue the same approach this time.

Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude for presenting her third budget, saying she was thankful to God.

She noted that Punjab had contributed the largest share to the federal government in defence and other sectors.

Despite reduced federal fiscal transfers, she said the provincial government remained committed to providing relief to citizens through its own resources.

She added that even during illness, she had continued holding meetings via video link to ensure progress on public relief commitments.

The chief minister said the journey of public service and development would continue without compromise and reaffirmed her government’s focus on improving living standards across the province.
