IRGC commander: Trump faces 'bad or worse' choices on Iran

A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has said that US President Donald Trump has no favourable options regarding Iran and must choose between a “bad” or “worse” course of action.

IRGC Deputy for Political Affairs, Second Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, said on Saturday that Trump was confronting the consequences of what he described as a failed military strategy against Iran.

“Trump, whose defeat in the war has become evident to anyone, now faces two paths forward: the bad path or the worse path,” Javani said, according to Iranian state media.

He said the US president must either recognise what he described as the conditions and rights of the Iranian nation or continue what he called an “aggressive war” against Iran.

Javani said the United States and Israel had miscalculated in launching a large-scale offensive, adding that their objectives had included targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities and attempting to weaken its political system.

He claimed that Iran had gained a stronger regional position, including influence over the Strait of Hormuz, and said Tehran had set out its conditions for resolving the current standoff, leaving Washington to respond.

“There is a consensus among the armed forces, diplomats, and society that Iran’s rights must be secured, whether through negotiations or other means,” he said.

The IRGC commander warned that Iranian forces remained fully prepared for any escalation, saying any further miscalculations would be met with a “stronger and more decisive” response.
