Supreme Judicial Council dismisses all five complaints against CJP Yahya Afridi

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has unanimously dismissed five complaints filed against Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, ruling all of them inadmissible, according to a communiqué issued after a recent council session.

The first complaint was filed by Peshawar High Court lawyer Sabghatullah Shah, relating to Afridi’s conduct as a PHC judge in 2016. The council dismissed it unanimously at its May 14 session.

The second complaint was brought by Karachi resident Amjad Hussain Durrani, who alleged that a Supreme Court case was dismissed without a hearing, which he claimed constituted misconduct. The council rejected this complaint as well.

A third complaint, filed by Karachi resident Kamran Khan, alleged that his petition was dismissed without being heard. The council unanimously ruled it inadmissible.

The fourth complaint came from Vehari resident Muhammad Masood, who alleged that a civil case judgment delivered in March 2023 violated the law and amounted to misconduct. It was also dismissed.

The fifth and final complaint was filed by Lahore High Court lawyer Amjad Mahmood, alleging that a lawyer was barred from entering the Supreme Court in 2024. The council dismissed this complaint unanimously as well.

The communiqué said the council, after deliberating on all five complaints, unanimously found them to be without merit and not actionable.
