Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Wednesday, discussing the progress of US-Iran negotiations and regional stability, as Islamabad intensifies its role as a mediator between the two sides.

The meeting, reported by Al Jazeera citing Iran’s Tasnim news agency, focused on the current regional situation and ongoing indirect talks between Tehran and Washington.

Both sides stressed the importance of dialogue, regional cooperation, and continued engagement. President Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

During the visit, Naqvi also met IRGC Commander General Ahmad Vahidi and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, discussing bilateral relations, regional security, and matters of mutual interest.

This is Naqvi’s second visit to Tehran in less than a week, a frequency analysts say reflects the rapid pace of back-channel diplomacy and Pakistan’s ambition to cement its role as a key intermediary.

Iran has recently submitted a 14-point plan in response to the latest US proposal, with Pakistan facilitating the exchange of positions between the two sides.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed earlier on Wednesday that Tehran had received a new American proposal and was examining it, adding that Naqvi’s presence was “aimed at facilitating the exchange of messages.”

During his previous visit, Naqvi held a 90-minute meeting with President Pezeshkian, covering bilateral relations and diplomatic affairs. He also met Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Diplomatic sources say Pakistan has been actively working in recent months to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States, having previously facilitated contacts and dialogue between the two countries.

Analysts note that Naqvi’s repeated trips to Tehran signal that Islamabad is positioning itself as an indispensable player in one of the region’s most consequential diplomatic processes.
