The violence erupted approximately ten days after 14-year-old Sidra, from the Channa community, married Muhammad Hassan Burro of the Burro community. The couple left the area following the marriage, and Hassan’s family vacated their home citing security fears.

According to victims, attackers doused homes with petrol before setting them alight, destroying clothing, grain, household goods, and personal belongings. Multiple families have since fled the village. Victims estimate losses running into crores of rupees.

On the directions of SSP Jacobabad, police registered a case against 32 suspects — including Mohsin Ali Channa, Saddam Hussain Channa, and Abdullah Channa — under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Investigators say hundreds of people participated in the attack.

Heavy police contingents have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence. Local political, religious, and civil society figures are attempting to mediate between the two communities.

Residents told reporters that normal life has been severely disrupted and families are living in fear. Citizens are demanding immediate intervention by senior authorities, protection for affected families, and strict legal action against those responsible.

Civil society representatives said the incident reflects a continuing pattern in rural Sindh, where honour-based and tribal codes are used to justify taking the law into one’s own hands, a trend they described as deeply alarming.
