Punjab cuts several traffic fines, expands e-challan system to commercial vehicles

The Punjab government has reduced several traffic fines across the province and updated the “One App” system in line with the revised penalty structure, officials said on Thursday.

Under the new policy, commercial vehicles will also start receiving e-challan tickets from today as authorities expand digital traffic enforcement measures.

Officials said various motorcycle-related traffic violations will now carry a fine of Rs1,000. However, fines for riding without a helmet and one-way violations will remain unchanged at Rs2,000.

Driving a motorcycle without a licence will also result in a Rs2,000 penalty.

For drivers of vehicles above 2,000cc, the lane-line violation fine has been fixed at Rs2,000, while violating traffic signals will carry a Rs3,000 fine for car drivers.

Authorities further announced that operating a commercial vehicle without a valid licence will result in a Rs5,000 fine.

The government also issued revised penalties for smoke-emitting vehicles as part of efforts to curb pollution.

Motorcycles and rickshaws found emitting excessive smoke will face a Rs2,000 fine, while commercial vehicles violating emission rules will be fined Rs5,000.

CTO Lahore said the purpose of traffic challans was to reform driving behaviour rather than merely collect penalties.

He urged citizens to follow traffic laws to ensure safer travel on roads across the province.
