Trump: 100% certain Iran will stop enriching uranium

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he was “100 per cent” confident that Iran would stop enriching uranium and abandon efforts to develop a nuclear weapon, while also praising Pakistan’s leadership for its role in regional diplomacy.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said Washington remained firm on preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“100 per cent they’re going to stop,” Trump said when asked whether Iran would halt uranium enrichment.

He added that the United States was only interested in securing “a good deal” with Iran and insisted the outcome would favour Washington regardless of how the crisis was resolved.

“It’s a very simple message that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.

The US president also praised Pakistan’s role in efforts surrounding the Iran crisis, particularly commending Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“They’re great. I think the Pakistanis have been great. The field marshal and the prime minister of Pakistan have been absolutely great,” Trump said when asked about Pakistan’s mediation role.

Trump further claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely weakened.

“We have ended everything related to Iran’s war machine,” he said, adding that the US blockade against Tehran had been “100 per cent effective”.

He maintained that the United States would emerge victorious whether the dispute was resolved diplomatically or otherwise.

“Whether this matter is resolved peacefully or another way, either way, we will win,” Trump remarked.

The president also said the United States did not need China’s help in dealing with Iran but confirmed he would discuss the issue during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing later this week.

“We’re going to have a long talk about it. I think he’s been relatively good, to be honest with you,” Trump said of Xi.
