Islamabad saved from major attack as female bomber nabbed

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has said that security forces prevented a major disaster in the federal capital, Islamabad, by arresting a female suicide bomber during an operation.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta on Monday, Bugti said the woman had been coerced by terrorists and prepared for an attack targeting Islamabad.

“Some time ago, it was reported through social media that a woman had gone missing. Thanks to timely action by intelligence agencies, this horrific plan was successfully foiled,” he said.

Bugti highlighted the tactics being used by terrorist groups to exploit women, including “honey traps” and blackmail, noting that these methods are increasingly being employed to manipulate female operatives.

The chief minister described the suspected woman’s situation as deeply troubling, stating she had been threatened that her father would be killed if she refused to carry out the attack.

Emphasising that such acts have no connection to Baloch culture or traditions, Bugti condemned the exploitation of innocent girls by groups acting to please international sponsors.

“Using women as weapons is absolutely unacceptable,” he said.

During the press conference, Bugti also claimed that the arrested woman had confessed to being on a mission to carry out a suicide attack in Islamabad.

Considering the circumstances and the blackmail involved, the government has decided to return the woman to her father to give her a chance at rehabilitation and a normal life.

Bugti praised the vigilance and professionalism of security forces and intelligence agencies, stating that their swift response spared Pakistan from a major tragedy.

He urged the public to remain alert against terrorist propaganda and tactics that exploit innocent people under the guise of Baloch identity, emphasising that the aim of such groups is solely to spread unrest.

“The state is fully prepared to foil their nefarious designs,” he added.
