The Sindh cabinet on Tuesday approved a raft of spending measures, including a Rs 510 million fuel subsidy for fishing communities, Rs 6.5 billion for Karachi road repairs and funds for a new bridge linking Hyderabad and Kotri.

The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House, worked through a 25-point agenda attended by provincial ministers, advisors and senior officials.

Thousands of fishing boats in Thatta, Karachi, Sujawal and Badin will receive between Rs 100,000 and Rs 200,000 each in fuel support under the new scheme.

The cabinet separately extended a Rs 2,000 per-month motorcycle fuel subsidy through May 31, authorising more than Rs 2 billion for the programme.

On urban infrastructure, the cabinet cleared Rs 6.5 billion for the rehabilitation of Karachi’s road network and allocated funds to 24 towns across the city.

A mega cemetery project in the Malir district was also approved, with 500 acres to be acquired and handed to the Local Government Department.

“The construction of the bridge will provide great convenience to the people.” Murad Ali Shah said.

CM Sindh directed officials to open the Sukkur Trauma Centre by June and ordered the establishment of an anti-encroachment tribunal in Shaheed Benazirabad.

The cabinet was briefed on agreements reached during a recent presidential visit to China, including a deal for a seawater desalination plant in Karachi and a factory to produce vaccines against animal diseases.

A dedicated China desk will be set up within the provincial Investment Department to coordinate follow-up.

On legislation, the cabinet approved an amendment to the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act and forwarded the revised bill to the provincial assembly.
