Fitna al-Khawarij attacks persist as KP civilian areas come under fire

Unprovoked aggression by Fitna al-Khawarij continues, with a sustained pattern of attacks targeting civilian populations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials and local sources said.

A quadcopter drone strike hit a cricket ground in Mamond tehsil’s Shahi Tangi area of Bajaur, injuring three people. The attack took place while a match was in progress. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Local sources said the strike appeared to be timed to coincide with peak activity at the ground, raising concerns about deliberate targeting of civilians to spread fear.

According to a recent press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Bajaur, multiple border areas — particularly Mamond and Salarzai — came under mortar fire from across Afghanistan during March and April 2026.

Officials said at least nine civilians were martyred in cross-border firing attributed to the Afghan Taliban, including three women and six children.

Security analysts say Fitna al-Khawarij are increasingly using quadcopters against unarmed civilians as they struggle to confront Pakistani security forces directly.

Authorities said Pakistan’s security forces are responding effectively to attacks by Fitna al-Khawarij and the Afghan Taliban, targeting only militant positions and their supporting infrastructure while taking measures to safeguard civilian populations.

Officials added that repeated attacks on civilians have deepened public anger against Fitna al-Khawarij, as security operations continue across the affected border districts.
