Maryam Nawaz announces 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore, sources said on Sunday.

The project, which will be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT City, will be the country’s first fully integrated “end-to-end” media production hub, offering modern facilities for film, television, animation and digital media under one roof.

Maryam Nawaz said the initiative aims to revive Pakistan’s film industry by providing advanced technology, resources and infrastructure, while reducing reliance on foreign services for visual effects (VFX) and post-production.

The planned Film City will include state-of-the-art studios, sound stages, post-production labs, and purpose-built shooting sets.

A central lake and convention halls for international events and award shows will also be part of the project.

In addition, the development will feature a media trade hub as well as film and music schools to support talent development.

The chief minister said the project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities and boost sectors such as animation, gaming and digital media, strengthening the broader creative economy.

The Film City will be completed in phases, with further details to be announced soon.
