The Punjab Assembly has passed an amendment bill to reduce traffic fines across multiple vehicle categories, with the revised penalties to take effect after final approval by the governor.

Under the amendments, motorcycle fines have been reduced from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000, with the maximum penalty capped at Rs2,000.

Fines for certain rickshaw violations have been cut from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000, while penalties for serious offences remain at Rs2,000.

For cars and jeeps, fines have been reduced from Rs5,000 to Rs2,000, although serious violations will continue to attract a Rs5,000 penalty.

Fines for vehicles above 2000cc and luxury cars have also been lowered, with the maximum penalty reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000.

Penalties for light transport vehicles, including Mazda and Coaster, have been cut from Rs20,000 to Rs7,000, while fines for trucks and buses have been reduced to Rs10,000.

However, no reduction has been made in fines for overspeeding.

Officials said the move aims to ease the financial burden on citizens while maintaining penalties for serious traffic violations.
