Solar panel prices jump sharply in Karachi amid power crisis

Residents in Karachi say they turned to solar panels to deal with severe load-shedding and rising electricity bills, but claim prices have now increased sharply due to profiteering in the market on Wednesday.

According to local reports, solar panel prices have risen by seven to eight rupees per watt.

A 585-watt solar plate, which was previously sold for around sixteen thousand five hundred rupees, is now reportedly priced at up to twenty-five thousand rupees.

Citizens also claim the price per watt has increased to around forty rupees.

They say the situation is worsening as electricity supply remains unstable while monthly bills continue to rise.

Residents further allege that although demand has increased, warehouses remain stocked with solar equipment, raising concerns of price manipulation.

People say they are facing a double burden of expensive electricity and rising costs of alternative energy solutions.
