In a statement, the board said Shanaka’s unilateral withdrawal from the tournament on March 21, 2026, constituted a clear violation of both the Player Registration terms and the Tripartite Agreement. The withdrawal, it added, was made on grounds not recognised within the contractual framework.

Shanaka had been picked by Lahore Qalandars during the PSL players’ auction but later opted out, citing personal reasons.

While acknowledging the player’s apology and his expressed desire to play in Pakistan again, the PCB said regulatory action was necessary to protect the integrity and exclusivity of the league.

“I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the HBL PSL and offer my sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan and the fans,” Shanaka said in a statement, adding that he had no intention of joining any other tournament at the time.

The PCB reiterated its commitment to enforcing professional standards and ensuring strict adherence to player contracts.
