The victim, identified as Faheema Laghari, a third-year student at a private medical college, reportedly died by suicide after enduring prolonged harassment from teachers and fellow students, according to her family.

Despite the registration of a case against the accused, protesters say no arrests have been made so far.

Demonstrators, including university students and rights activists, have been holding a sit-in since the previous day, accusing police of failing to take concrete action.

The family claims official assurances of a high-level inquiry, and arrests have remained limited to statements, with no visible progress on the ground.

Protesters have now called for nationwide demonstrations, urging students across Sindh and beyond to raise their voices.

Appeal to Punjab CM

In a notable move, demonstrators appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for intervention, expressing frustration over what they described as a lack of justice at the provincial level in Sindh.

Participants at the protest warned that failure to hold those responsible accountable would further endanger female students.

“If the accused are not punished, girls will never feel safe pursuing education,” one student said, calling the incident a stark example of systemic neglect.

Earlier reports stated that the 21-year-old allegedly shot herself at home following sustained harassment.

Police confirmed a post-mortem has been conducted and her mobile phone has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.

Zulfiqar Ali Shah had contacted the family and directed authorities to ensure an inquiry and arrests.

However, the lack of progress has fuelled public anger, turning the case into a broader outcry over harassment and safety in educational institutions.
