The decision followed a meeting at Parliament House between government allies and opposition leaders, including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, opposition figures Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Junaid Akbar Khan, as well as senior political figures Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar and Amin-ul-Haque.

Opposition Leader in the Senate Raja Nasir Abbas confirmed the postponement, saying the rally scheduled for Thursday had been called off at the government’s request.

Earlier, the Rawalpindi District Administration had denied PTI permission to hold the gathering, citing law and order concerns. Officials said public safety could not be guaranteed due to prevailing security threats.

Authorities also noted that Section 144 remains in force in Rawalpindi, restricting public gatherings, while logistical and financial constraints made it difficult to ensure adequate security arrangements.

The cancellation comes amid heightened political and security sensitivities in the country.
