US and Iran both claim victory after Pakistan-brokered ceasefire

Both the United States and Iran claimed victory on Wednesday following the announcement of a Pakistan-brokered two-week ceasefire.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council framed the deal as a triumph for Tehran, saying that US President Donald Trump had effectively accepted Iran’s conditions for halting hostilities.

Iranian officials highlighted that Washington had agreed to use Tehran’s 10-point proposal as the basis for upcoming negotiations, portraying the outcome as a result of Iran’s resilience, patience, and the unity of its armed forces.

In response, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the ceasefire a “victory for the United States,” crediting President Trump and the military for creating “maximum leverage” that paved the way for a diplomatic solution and long-term peace.

Iranian leaders emphasised that their insistence on fighting until their conditions were met had enabled them to secure the concessions they sought, portraying the ceasefire as validation of the country’s defence capabilities.

“The fact that these 10 demands by Iran have been accepted as a basis for negotiations, and that most points of contention are agreed upon, shows that Iran achieved its objectives,” an Iranian official said.

Both sides are now preparing for the next stage of diplomacy, with Pakistan facilitating talks to transform the ceasefire into a longer-term settlement.
