Pakistan expressed hope on Thursday that it will have the opportunity to facilitate meaningful negotiations between the United States and Iran, the Foreign Office spokesperson said during the weekly briefing.

Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi clarified that there is no confirmed information regarding the visit of US Vice President JD Vance or a delegation to Islamabad.

He added that it is up to the relevant parties to determine the timing and schedule of any talks.

“We are confident that both the United States and Iran place their trust in Pakistan,” he said.

The spokesperson noted that Pakistan is prepared to provide a platform for dialogue aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the ongoing Iran-related crisis.

Commitment to regional peace

Highlighting Pakistan’s long-standing efforts for peace in the region, the spokesperson said Pakistan already condemned attacks by Iran on Gulf countries as well as strikes within Iran.

“Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace and stability in accordance with the UN Charter,” he said, describing the ongoing regional tensions as dangerous.

He stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths to sustainable peace and that Pakistan will continue to play its constructive role.

Engagement with China and regional partners

The spokesperson said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar undertook a one-day visit to China, where he discussed the situation in Afghanistan with the Chinese leadership.

The spokesperson confirmed that the visit included detailed talks on Middle East tensions and measures to promote regional stability.

Andrabi added that Pakistan approved steps under a five-point peace plan and continued to engage with international partners to de-escalate the regional tensions.

The official referred to recent visits from the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, highlighting Pakistan’s deep relations with these countries.

The spokesperson referred to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s contacts with regional leaders, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, adding that both sides appreciated Pakistan’s positive role in the current situation.

The spokesperson also mentioned recognition from the Kuwaiti Crown Prince of Pakistan’s constructive engagement.

Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and reducing regional tensions.

“The Muslim Ummah is determined to play a role in de-escalation. Pakistan will continue to contribute to peace and stability in the region,” he said.
