Citing US officials, the Washington Post said the planning involved operations lasting several weeks, though the action would not constitute a full-scale invasion.

Instead, the missions might include joint raids by special forces and conventional ground troops.

According to the report, the mission would target Iranian coastal areas and key military facilities, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz, where both commercial and military vessels faced threats from the IRGC.

The Washington Post noted that US forces could face a range of dangers during such operations, including Iranian drones, missile strikes, ground fire, and improvised explosive devices.

It is unclear whether President Donald Trump would approve the plans fully, partially, or at all.

White House spokesperson Caroline Lewitt said the Pentagon’s work involves developing multiple options for the president, but stressed that this does not imply any final decision has been made.

Reports indicate that US officials are considering a variety of options, including taking control of Iran’s major oil export hub on Kharg Island.

Other coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz are also reportedly under consideration.

One official suggested that such missions could be executed within weeks or a few months.
