The order followed reports that Netanyahu’s government obtained a copy of a US-drafted 15-point peace plan, which Israeli officials believe does not sufficiently address Iran’s nuclear programme or ballistic missile capabilities.

Israeli authorities are reportedly concerned that US President Donald Trump could announce peace talks imminently.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt responded cautiously to media coverage of the plan, stating that while there are “elements of truth,” many reports were not fully accurate.

Netanyahu issued the directive on Tuesday after briefings from senior military commanders on remaining strategic targets.

Limited leverage for Israel

According to five Israeli national security officials cited by the Times, Israel faces a fundamental constraint: the decision to end the conflict rests entirely with the United States, limiting Netanyahu’s influence.

Israeli officials remain divided over timing. Some advocate for another week to expand the target list, while others favour an accelerated conclusion.

Observers noted that the most significant military gains occurred in the opening week, with growing concerns over international opinion, financial costs, and domestic psychological strain.

Since February 28, Israeli and US forces have conducted air strikes across Iran, reportedly killing more than 1,340 people, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with regional attacks, disrupting global oil flows and aviation.

On Monday, Trump temporarily paused strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, while indirect US-Iranian communications reportedly continue through intermediaries.
